National Anthem Same Age as Newcomerstown

citizens of Newcomerstown are celebrating the 150th anniversary
of the founding of the town, the entire nation is commemorating
the 150th anniversary of another event, the writing of the
national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner.
It was in
1814 that Nicholas Neighbor came from Morris county, NJ to found
Newcomerstown. It was also in 1814 that Francis Scott Key wrote
"The Star Spangled Banner" while a prisoner of the English
during the War of 1812.
So, while
Newcomerstown residents celebrate the town's 150th anniversary,
they are commemorating the 150th birthday of the National Anthem. |
