First High School Basketball Game

Friday the 13th, 1922, was the date of the first basketball game in Newcomerstown High School. The doors of a new gymnasium, which was located in the attic of the East School, were opened for a game with Frazeysburg. The visiting team had much more experience and defeated the Trojans 36-12. The Newcomers came back strong the following week and in one of the roughest games of the season, defeated Gnadenhutten 33-34. During the season the Trojans tossed in 232 points while limiting their opponents to 188.
