Don Clarke has served
as custodian of Newcomerstown High School for more than 12
years. Since 1953 Mr. Clarke has been the school's janitor
and handyman, as well as helpful friend of students and
faculty. His responsibility is cleaning and maintenance of
the building.
During the summer he does
painting, scrubbing, waxing and repairing the building five
days a week.
Always willing to help anyone,
Mr. Clarke gets much pleasure and enjoyment in doing odd
jobs for teachers and students.
When asked which job he disliked
the most, he said, "Moving the piano." He added that he
likes his work very much and enjoys being near the students.
Don attended Newcomerstown
schools and served in the United States Air Force in Europe
during World War II. He was employed at Heller Tool Company
for 11 years before taking his present position with the
school.
Mr. Clarke enjoys "ballgames of
any kind" and likes very much to travel. He has visited 42
states besides traveling in England and France while
stationed there in the service.
He was born in Strasburg. His
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Clarke, operated a grocery store
for 17 years in Newcomerstown. He has one sister, and two
brothers. He resides at 144 Liberty Street. |
