Ruth I. Wise
Ruth I. Wise, 76, of
Newcomerstown passed away late Tuesday night, February 1, in her
Newcomerstown residence following a brief illness.
Ruth was born in Oxford Township, Tuscarawas County, on January
12, 1929, a daughter of the late Clyde Samuel and Bertha E.
Herbert Little. She was a retired employee of Riverside Manor
Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at Newcomerstown where she
worked in the housekeeping department for several years until
her retirement in 1989. Ruth also was a clerk at the former M&K
Market at Newcomerstown for several years and was employed at
Edmont-Wilson at Coshocton for several years. She also was an
Avon sales representative for many years. Ruth enjoyed fishing,
camping, gardening, raising flowers, watching birds, doing
crossword puzzles and watching the QVC television channel.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, William Vernon Wise
of Newcomerstown, who died on January 4, 1996, and whom she
married December 27, 1947. Also deceased are a granddaughter,
Lacy Nichole Sherman, who died in 1986; a sister, Cora Engle of
Illinois; four brothers, Raymond Little of West Lafayette,
William Ralph Little of Cambridge, Clarence E. Little of Wooster
and Samuel Wayne Little of Coshocton; and a stepsister, Marjorie
Randles of Newcomerstown.
Ruth is survived by her son and his wife, William Lee and Diane
[Tish] Wise of Newcomerstown, and her daughter and her husband,
Karen D. and Chris A. Norman of Newcomerstown. There are also
five grandchildren, Melanie K. (Mrs. George) Favire Jr. of
Huntsville, Alabama, Travis M. Sherman of Jacksonville, Florida,
and Karri A. (Mrs. Gary) McNichols, William L. Wise II and
companion Jamie Rafi, and Lindsey M. Norman, all of
Newcomerstown. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Kaitlin
and Kyler McNichols of Newcomerstown, and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services for Ruth will be held Saturday, February 5, at
11 a.m. in the Ourant Funeral Home. Pastor William C. Haggis II
will conduct the services. Burial will follow in Earley’s
Cemetery in Wheeling Township, Guernsey County. Visiting hours
will be Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. in the funeral home
and also one hour before the funeral on Saturday. Memorials may
