Ex-Slave Dies at Age of 95

Andrew McCarrel aged 95, Negro, a slave on a southern plantation
during the Civil War died at his home on Clow Avenue,
Newcomerstown late Tuesday afternoon from infirmities of age.
He was known among his race as “Uncle Andy.” He came to
Newcomerstown from Missouri 25 years ago, and was born and
reared in the south.
Mr. McCarrel had been employed at the J.B. Clow plant,
Newcomerstown. He is one of the oldest men in the vicinity of
Newcomerstown.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o’clock Thursday
afternoon in the Negro M.E. Church, Newcomerstown. Burial will
be made in the Newcomerstown cemetery.
