Emmett R. Schide, Jr.

Emmett R. Schide Jr., 77 of New Philadelphia died Sunday, February 8,1998, in Union Hospital at Dover.

Born June 1, 1920, in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Emmett R. and Bessie Selby Schide.  Mr. Schide was a 1939 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and was an Army veteran of World War II.  He retired from General Electric Company of Dover in 1983 as a millwright after 32 years of service. 

Mr. Schide was very interested in archaeology and served as president of Sugarcreek Valley Archeological Society.  He rebound books and caned chairs, and along with Mrs. Schide and his daughter, operated a booth at Dutch Valley Antique Mall.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene M. Lawrence Schide, whom he married June 28, 1941;  a daughter, Carol Schide of New Philadelphia;  a son, Howard (Sally) Schide of Exeter, R.I.;  a sister, Nancy (Earl) Wright of Troy;  two brothers, Paul Schide of Sarasota, Fla., and Howard (Kathy) Schide of St. Charles , Mo.;  and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Schide.

A private funeral service will be held in Linn-Hert-Gieb Funeral Home at New Philadelphia with Rev. Don Perks officiating.  Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
