 Driver Located in Fatality;
Services Set for 18-year-old

Times Reporter, November 04, 1978

NEWCOMERSTOWN - An RD 1 youth is expected to be charged in connection with a one-car crash Thursday night that claimed the life of Terry Wise, 18, of 515 S. College Street.  An investigation revealed that Wise was not driving the auto.

Wise was pronounced dead on arrival at Coshocton Memorial Hospital after the car in which he was riding struck a tree on Oxford Township Rd. 104 about a half mile northwest of here.  Witnesses told deputies that they saw one person fleeing the scene, and following investigation by Deputy Al Moore, Tuscarawas County sheriff deputies located John L. Bryant, 17, at Twin City Hospital in Dennison where he had gone for X-rays.

Tuscarawas County deputies stood by until Moore arrived and transported Bryant to the Coshocton County Justice Center for questioning.  Prosecutor Fleet Freeman said Bryant would be charged Monday.

Bryant walked to his residence after the crash, according to Coshocton deputies, but they were uncertain how he was transported to the hospital.  The extent of Bryant's injuries was not released.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Ourant Funeral Home for Wise, a son of Lorin and Virginia Maurer Wise with whom he resided.  He was born at Coshocton.

Rev. O.E. Ghere will officiate and burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery.  Friends may call today from 3:30 to 5 and 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers and a sister, Michael of Alexandria, VA, Mitchell of here and Tracy of the home, and a grandmother, Mrs. Ralph Wise of West Lafayette.
