NEWCOMERSTOWN - An RD 1 youth is expected to be
charged in connection with a one-car crash Thursday night that claimed
the life of Terry Wise, 18, of 515 S. College Street. An investigation
revealed that Wise was not driving the auto.
Wise was pronounced dead on arrival at Coshocton
Memorial Hospital after the car in which he was riding struck a tree on
Oxford Township Rd. 104 about a half mile northwest of here. Witnesses
told deputies that they saw one person fleeing the scene, and following
investigation by Deputy Al Moore, Tuscarawas County sheriff deputies located
John L. Bryant, 17, at Twin City Hospital in Dennison where he had gone
for X-rays.
Tuscarawas County deputies stood by until Moore
arrived and transported Bryant to the Coshocton County Justice Center for
questioning. Prosecutor Fleet Freeman said Bryant would be charged
Monday.
Bryant walked to his residence after the crash,
according to Coshocton deputies, but they were uncertain how he was transported
to the hospital. The extent of Bryant's injuries was not released.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Ourant
Funeral Home for Wise, a son of Lorin and Virginia Maurer Wise with whom
he resided. He was born at Coshocton.
Rev. O.E. Ghere will officiate and burial will
be in West Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call today from 3:30 to 5 and
7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers
and a sister, Michael of Alexandria, VA, Mitchell of here and Tracy of
the home, and a grandmother, Mrs. Ralph Wise of West Lafayette.

Terry Lane Wise, 18, Newcomerstown R.D. 3, was pronounced
dead on arrival at Coshocton Memorial Hospital Thursday (November 2, 1978)
following a one-car accident at 8 p.m.
Authorities said the car was traveling east on
County Road 104 in Oxford Township, Coshocton County, when it left the
road and smashed into a tree.
It was believed there was another person in the
car who fled on foot the crash. It was not known for sure who was
driving the car.
He was born February 1, 1960, in Coshocton, the
son of Lorin and Virginia Maurer Wise.
In addition to his parents, he leaves two brothers,
Michael of Alexandria, VA, and Mitchell of Newcomerstown; a sister,
Tracy, of the home; and a paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ralph Wise of
West Lafayette.
Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ourant
Funeral Home, with Rev. O.E. Ghere officiating. Burial was in West Lawn
Cemetery. |
