 Old Veteran Dies
William T. Wise, veteran
of the Civil War, died Thursday, October 21 at 9 p.m. at the home of his
son Roy Wise, E. State Street., this city at the age of 77 years, 8 months
and [ ] days. Death resulted from heart trouble and came without
a moment's warning.
He had lived in Coshocton for several years, but
was brought here to the home of his son, F.W. Wise, some weeks ago, when
his health began to fail.
Mr. Wise was born in Tuscarawas county February
14, 1843. He enlisted at the beginning of the Civil War and served
until the end. He was a member of the 32nd Inf. O.V.V.I. Shortly
after his return home he was united in marriage to Almira Delong who died
several years ago. To this union seven children were born, of whom
but three survive, Mrs. Cora Hinds of Portland, Oregon, Frank W. and Roy
Wise of this city.
He also leaves one brother, Samuel Wise of Mirabile,
Missouri, and two sisters, Mrs. John Renfrow of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Mrs.
Sarah Delong of Vincennes, Indiana.
He was an employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad
for many years until his health failed. At the time of his death
he was serving as Jr. Vice Com. of Coshocton Post G.A.R.
Funeral services were conducted at the home of
his son on E. State Street Sunday afternoon by Rev. L.C. Momberg.
Burial was made under the direction of the G.A.R. and Sons of Veterans.

Ten members of the local Richard Lanning Post, Ell Fortune, J.S.
Squiro, B.R. Shaw, Henry King, Charles Henry, Chris Hottinger,
J.C. Milligan, James Collier, James Netson and John McDonald
attended the funeral services Sunday afternoon at 1:00 o’clock
at Newcomerstown, of William Wise, 77, Civil War veteran who
died at the home of his son, Jesse Leroy Wise, of Newcomerstown
Friday. The cause of his death was heart trouble.
Mr. Wise moved from Coshocton to the home of his son Frank, in
Newcomerstown, four weeks ago. Soon afterward he went to the
home of his other son, Jesse Leroy Wise there.
He was a member of Company K, 32nd
Regiment O.V.I. and served in the Civil War until it closed. He
was a member of the Richard Lanning Post G.A.R.
His wife has been dead several years.
Burial was made in the Newcomerstown cemetery.
